Programme Introduction
The Programme offers an integrated educational experience in the disciplines of psychology and early childhood education. Graduates will acquire specialised knowledge and diverse skills, enhancing their career prospects. They will become professional educators equipped with substantial psychological expertise, enabling them to create inclusive and effective learning environments for young children aged zero to eight. The programme also supports further professional development in fields such as clinical, educational, counselling, and child psychology, providing practical learning experiences like internships.
1 Graduates of this programme will be eligible to apply for registration with the Education Bureau and Social Welfare Department as kindergarten teachers, child care workers, and child care supervisors in Hong Kong and meet the academic qualifications required by the Education Bureau for kindergarten principals. They will also be considered as having acquired training on the One-year In-service Course in Special Child Care Work, recognized by the Social Welfare Department, HKSAR. Additionally, they will be eligible to apply for membership in the Hong Kong Psychological Society, further enhancing their professional growth.

Notes:
(1) Classes will be held in Tai Po Campus and Tseung Kwan O Study Centre / North Point Study Centre / Sports Centre / Kowloon Tong Satellite Study Centre as decided by the University.
(2) Students admitted into this programme are required to visit the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and/or other parts of Mainland China. The programme may also require students to participate in other non-local learning experience for completion of the programme. While the visits are subsidised, students are required to contribute part of the estimated cost of the visits ("students’ contribution"), whereas any personal entertainment, meals expenses, travel document fee and personal insurance costs shall be at students’ own expense. The estimated cost of the visits and students’ contribution for students admitted to the coming cohort is yet to be available due to a variety of factors such as inflation of cost of the visits, trip duration, traveling expenses, the exchange rate, etc.
(3) Starting from the 2024/25 cohort, students admitted to the full-time Bachelor of Education and Double Degree programmes are required to fulfil the “Exit Requirements for Teachers’ Professional Conduct and Ethics”, which consists of three components: 1) Fulfilment of assessment requirements of Field Experience; 2) Satisfactory completion of two required courses related to Teachers’ Professional Conduct and Ethics; 3) Fulfilment of relevant co-curricular requirement.
Field Experience
Field experience (FE) is a core domain in both the pre-service and in-service teacher education programmes at the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) which aims to support students to develop the graduate attributes of the University, i.e., Professional Excellence, Ethical Responsibilities and Innovation (PEER &I), and to nurture them to be outstanding and caring educators and professionals who contribute constructively to sustainable social and economic development in Hong Kong and beyond. Career Prospects/Professional Recognition
Graduates with ECE teacher certification and a major in psychology are highly sought after by school principals for their deep understanding of child development and ability to support children with diverse needs. The Programme offers fundamental psychology training, which is essential for further professional training/education.Graduates may pursue further education in applied psychology, educational psychology, clinical psychology, counseling, social work, play therapy, or expressive arts therapy.
Upon completing the programme, students will be qualified to register as Kindergarten Teachers with the Education Bureau and as Child Care Workers with the Social Welfare Department. They will be able to teach in licensed early childhood settings and meet the professional requirements for kindergarten principals and child care supervisors. Additionally, they will be recognized for completing the One-year In-service Course in Special Child Care Work from the Social Welfare Department and will be eligible to apply for membership in the Hong Kong Psychological Society.
