Who to Apply

If you are applying on the strength of your HKDSE examination results, you should apply through JUPAS. JUPAS applicants are normally required to possess the following qualifications:

General Entrance Requirements (2023 Entry)

Remarks:

  • "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)/(II)" obtained in or after 2018, in an Applied Learning subject (Category B) (excluding Applied Learning Chinese) will be regarded as having met the requirement of an elective subject. “Attained with Distinction” / “Attained with Distinction (I)” are comparable to Level 3 while “Attained with Distinction (II)” is comparable to Level 4 of the Senior Secondary Subjects (Category A).
  • "Attained" level will be regarded as a value-added factor to be considered in totality with the Student Learning Profile (SLP) for the purpose of admission.
  • Other Language subjects (Category C) will be accepted as unspecified elective subjects. The minimum requirement is Grade E.
  • For non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students who have met the specified circumstances as announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), the University accepts alternative qualifications in Chinese Language (only those under GCE, GCSE, IGCSE, and DSE Applied Learning Chinese (for NCS students)) for the purpose of meeting the minimum entrance requirements. For programmes which require students to have possessed a good command of Chinese including BEd (Chinese Language), BEd(Chinese History) and BA in Language Studies (Chinese major), waiver of the DSE Chinese Language requirement will not be granted.   • Extended Part in Mathematics (M1/M2) will be counted as elective subjects for the purpose of meeting the General Entrance Requirements, but cannot be used as a substitute for the Mathematics Compulsory Part. If applicants have taken both M1 and M2, only the module with the best result will be taken into consideration.
  • "Combined sittings" is allowed for HKDSE in the calculation of admission scores. If an applicant has taken the examination in a subject more than once, only the best result for that subject will be counted. There is no score deduction for repeated subjects.
  • Band A applicants who fail to meet the general entrance requirements by one level in one of the HKDSE core subjects, but achieve excellent result(s) in the HKDSE subject(s) relevant to the applied prorgamme(s) may also be considered for admission.

For BEd(PE), preferred HKDSE subject with the highest weighting for admission score calculation is Physical Education (PE). However, applicants not taking PE in the HKDSE examination will also be considered. In addition, admission interview performance is a key factor in determining the admission or otherwise of an applicant.

The University adopts a holistic approach in student selection. During the selection process, the University will take into account applicants' interview performance, school reference reports, other learning experiences and/or achievements in non-academic areas such as Sports, Music, Community Service, Aesthetic and other cultural activities. Applicants who put our programmes as their Band A choices will be given higher priority for admission.

Notes to Non-local Applicants

According to the definition of local and non-local students by the Education Bureau (EDB) for the purpose of admission to post-secondary programmes, all non-local applicants, regardless of whether they possess HKDSE Examination results, must apply for admission via the non-JUPAS route, and NOT via JUPAS.
