The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) adopts a holistic approach in the assessment of applicants' suitability for the teacher education and multidisciplinary programmes. During the selection process, we take into account applicants’ HKDSE results, band choices, interview performance, school reference reports, other learning experiences and/or achievements in non-academic areas such as Sports, Music, Community Service, Aesthetic and other cultural activities.
Who to Apply
If you are applying on the strength of your HKDSE examination results, you should apply through JUPAS. JUPAS applicants are normally required to possess the following qualifications:

Notes:
- Applied Learning (ApL) subject (Category B) graded “Attained with Distinction / Attained with Distinction (I)/(II)” is accepted as one of the elective subjects, excluding Applied Learning Chinese.
- For Bachelor’s degree, not more than one ApL subject will be counted as having met the requirement of an elective subject.
- For Higher Diploma, not more than two ApL subjects will be counted as having met the requirement of the other subjects.
- Particular programmes will consider the results of the specific ApL subjects with heavier weighting in the admission score calculation. Please click here for details.
- The Mathematics Extended Part (M1/M2) is counted as an elective subject for the purpose of meeting the University’s GERs, but cannot be used as a substitute for the Mathematics Compulsory Part. If applicants have taken both M1 and M2, only the module with the best result will be taken into consideration.
- Other Languages subjects (Category C) will be accepted as unspecified elective subjects. The minimum requirements are: level N3 for Japanese Language, Grade 3 for Korean Language, level A2 for French/German/Spanish Language. For level/grade to score conversion, please refer to here.
- For non-Chinese speaking (NCS) applicants who have met the specified circumstances as announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), the University accepts the Alternative Qualifications in Chinese Language (ACL), such as GCE (A-level / AS-level) (Grade E), GCE (O-Level) (Grade C), GCSE (Grade C / Grade 4), IGCSE (Grade C / Grade 4) and HKDSE ApL(C) (Attained), as equivalent to Level 3 in HKDSE Chinese Language for meeting the minimum Chinese Language requirements and for calculation of the related admission scores, except for programmes which require students to have possessed a good command of Chinese (i.e. JS8003, JS8005 and JS8674).
- The admission scores will be the sum total of the level/grade values of the best five HKDSE subjects, regardless of whether they are core or elective subjects and excluding the Citizenship and Social Development subject. Please click here for details.
- For Bachelor's degree programmes, the past result(s) of HKDSE Liberal Studies (Level 2 or above) attained in 2023 or before will be recognised for meeting the Citizenship and Social Development subject requirement in the GERs and will be included in the admission score calculation as long as the result is among the best five HKDSE subjects.
- For Higher Diploma programme, either the “Attained” level in Citizenship and Social Development or Level 2 or above in HKDSE Liberal Studies attained in 2023 or before is recognised for meeting one of ‘any three other subjects’ requirement in the GERs. The past result of HKDSE Liberal Studies will be included in the admission score calculation as long as it is among the best five HKDSE subjects.
- "Combined sittings" is accepted for meeting the GERs and for the calculation of admissions scores. If an applicant has taken the HKDSE examination in a subject more than once, the best result for that subject will be counted. There is no score deduction for repeated subjects.
Flexible Admissions Arrangement
For Bachelor’s degree programmes, Band A applicants who fail to meet the GERs by one level in any one of the HKDSE subjects (either the core or elective subjects, except CSD and subject(s) relevant to the applied programme(s)) but meet either one of the following criteria will be considered:
- Achieving level 5* or 5** in any HKDSE subject(s); or
- Attaining the admission score on par with the overall mean score (without subject weighting) of the undergraduate programmes in the last admission year.
For Higher Diploma programme, Band A applicants who fail to meet the GERs by one level in any one of the three other subjects (excluding Chinese Language, English Language and CSD) but meet either one of the following criteria will be considered:
- Achieving level 5* or 5** in any HKDSE subject(s); or
- Attaining the admission score on par with the mean score (without subject weighting) of the higher diploma programme in the last admission year.
