Selection Criteria

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) adopts a holistic approach in the assessment of applicants' suitability for the teacher education and multidisciplinary programmes. During the selection process, we take into account applicants’ HKDSE results, band choices, interview performance, school reference reports, other learning experiences and/or achievements in non-academic areas, etc. Applicants nominated under various nomination schemes may be considered favourably with good school reference report, interview performance and relevant achievement/experience. For entry to the specific programmes like Chinese, English, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education and Visual Arts, applicants have to demonstrate a required level of competence in the subject area.

Admission Score Calculation

The admission score is the sum total of the level/grade values of the best five HKDSE subjects (i.e., Best 5), regardless of whether they are core or elective subjects and excluding the Citizenship and Social Development subject. Subject weightings may be adopted in the score calculation for particular programmes. Applicants are reminded that score calculations and the specific subject weightings may vary each year among programmes.

Upon score calculation and compilation of interview results (if any), eligible applicants will be given a rating in the Merit Order List (for submission to the JUPAS Office) according to the ranking criteria of individual programmes. The ranking criteria include, but are not limited to, the admission score (with weightings applied where appropriate), interview performance, band choice, relevant HKDSE subject(s) score, school reference report, OEA, SLP, etc.

Subject levels/grades are converted into numeric values according to the following scoring system:
