Programme Aims and Intended Learning Outcomes
This programme caters for professionals involved in pathways that offer an alternative to academic studies such as career-oriented studies, associate degrees, vocational professional training and re-training. The programme aims to enable students to develop and integrate the professional knowledge, skills and attitudes required for effective teaching and learning of professional and vocational education (PVE) in different settings, including Applied Learning context.
Upon completion of the Programme, students will be able to:
| PILO1 | Demonstrate professional knowledge and competence in designing, managing and evaluating a range of learning and teaching practices within the PVE context; |
| PILO2 | Evaluate critically the effectiveness of different teaching strategies and assessment approaches and to make continuous improvement in the PVE context through lifelong learning; |
| PILO3 | Demonstrate a critical understanding of contemporary issues in the PVE context pertinent to current practical knowledge, policies and practices; and |
| PILO4 | Demonstrate a practical understanding of ethical issues in PVE practice to contextualise the learning and its application to one's own professional practice. |
Programme Structure
This is a two-year part-time programme comprising 30 credit points (cps). The programme curriculum covers the following components:

Important Note: Starting from the 2026/27 cohort, students admitted to this programme are required to fulfil the “Exit Requirements for Teachers’ Professional Conduct and Ethics”, which consists of three components: 1) Fulfilment of assessment requirements of Field Experience; 2) Satisfactory completion of two required courses related to Teachers’ Professional Conduct and Ethics; 3) Fulfilment of relevant co-curricular requirement.

Remarks:
Students who choose not to take an Elective Studies Course in Year 2 Summer Semester must complete two Elective Studies Courses in Year 2 Semester 2 to meet the graduation requirements.
Programme Orientation
All students must attend a programme orientation which includes information sessions about the curriculum, campus facilities and services.
General Methods and Education Studies
The General Methods and Education Studies components provide students with a substantial grounding in the principles and practices of teaching and assessment relevant to the education of young adults in the professional and vocational education (PVE) context. These include a broad understanding of human development and the learning process; theories of adolescent and adult learning; approaches to teaching strategies; instructional design and assessment; developing learning resources and contemporary issues in the whole field of PVE. The courses include:

Elective Studies
The Elective Studies component offers students with the extended studies that may be curriculum related or professional development oriented. Students are required to choose two out of the following courses according to their own professional needs and/or interests.

- Policy and Legislation in Applied Learning and Vocational Education
- Inclusive Education and Diverse Learners in Applied Learning Contexts
- Work-based Learning and School-Industry Collaboration
Field Experience
The Field Experience component, as a platform for further professional development, builds on students' existing teaching experience and knowledge of their work settings. Students are expected to use relevant professional and vocational education practice to demonstrate the integration of skills and knowledge from other courses and their competence as teachers in different settings, including Applied Learning context. Consistent with the University's practice in Field Experience, students will be visited and provided with feedback on their work by their University Supervisors and colleagues in the workplace.

Common Core
The curriculum incorporates three areas of curriculum emphasis, which aim to prepare participants to be future ready, equip them with the necessary skills to meet diverse workplace/school requirements and offer them with GBA/Mainland experience.

*Important Note: Students admitted into this programme are required to visit the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and/or other parts of Chinese Mainland. The programme may also require students to participate in other non-local learning experience for completion of the programme. While the visits are subsidised, students are required to contribute part of the estimated cost of the visits ("students’ contribution"), whereas any personal entertainment, meals expenses, travel document fee and personal insurance costs shall be at students’ own expense. The estimated cost of the visits and students’ contribution for students admitted to the coming cohort is yet to be available due to a variety of factors such as inflation of cost of the visits, trip duration, traveling expenses, the exchange rate, etc.
Classes in the same or different semester(s) are normally held in weekday evenings and/or on Saturdays in the Tseung Kwan O Study Centre/ Kowloon Tong Satellite Study Centre/ Tai Po Campus/ North Point Study Centre/ EdUHK Sports Centre (Pak Shek Kok), as decided by the University.
Methods of Teaching and Learning
A variety of teaching approaches, such as lectures, case studies, discussions, presentations, experiential activities, problem-solving activities, online learning and directed study, will be adopted. All teaching and learning activities emphasise inquiry, application and reflection.
Assessments
A range of assessment strategies will be used throughout the courses to facilitate and monitor students' professional development. These strategies include: case studies, field studies, online discussions, instructional planning, projects, review reports and presentations. All assessments are criterion referenced.
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is mainly Chinese. English and/or Putonghua is adopted as the language of instruction for relevant courses, as appropriate.
Entrance Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants should normally:
- hold a recognised Bachelor's degree, or equivalent; and
- hold a teaching post in a PVE context.
Priority will be given to applicants already teaching Applied Learning subjects.
Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.
