Programme Aims
This programme aims to equip in-service kindergarten teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to promote Chinese culture to young children through Chinese Visual Arts. It gives emphasis on enhancing participants’ knowledge of Chinese traditional cultural values from ancient Chinese philosophies. These cultural values are embedded in different types of Chinese Visual Arts like Chinese painting and architecture.
This programme will focus on building the capacity of the participants in developing and implementing school-based curriculum for teaching Chinese culture. And this programme has a practical orientation, in which the participants will discuss and share their actual teaching practice in different kindergartens as a kind of professional knowledge exchange. The participants will be fostered to examine, learn, and appreciate the value of Chinese Visual Arts in nurturing the spirit of patriotism in children. Theories of moral education, concepts of Chinese virtues will be discussed to inform the practice of promoting Chinese culture for children.
Programme Structure
The programme consists of one 3-credit-point course with a total of 39 hours.
This course will focus on:
- appreciate the value of Chinese Visual Arts in nurturing the spirit of patriotism in children;
- articulate the concepts of Chinese virtues and theories of moral education;
- apply different teaching strategies and available resources in society to enhance the appreciation of Chinese culture for children; and
- apply professional knowledge to devise a school-based curriculum infused with Chinese culture.
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is mainly Chinese (Cantonese) and will be supplemented by English where appropriate.

Entrance Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants should be:
- in-service qualified teachers, curriculum coordinators, school leaders or principals in pre-primary settings; and
- recommended by their principals.
Award
To be awarded a Certificate of Completion, participants must obtain a pass in all assessment tasks required and successfully fulfill the attendance and/or assessment requirements as stipulated by the programme.
Other Information
Participants who complete our PDPs are eligible to apply for credit transfer if they enroll in our postgraduate programmes. Their applications will be considered on an individual basis.
