Programme Aims
On successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to:
- understand the socio-cultural issues, historical-geographical aspects and political-economic achievements in the traditional and contemporary context of our country;
- in accordance with the key knowledge and teaching concepts of the Primary Humanities Curriculum Guide to enable students to develop a multi-dimensional understanding of our country and its close relationship with Hong Kong;
- plan and organise appropriate experiential learning activities related to our country in the Primary Humanities curriculum; and
- design and implement theoretically-informed assessment strategies that could recognise learners’ progress as recommended in the Primary Humanities curriculum.
Programme Structure
This programme aims to provide participants with an overview of the enriched curriculum focus on topics related to our country e.g. Chinese history and national geography in Primary Humanities. The objective is to enrich participants' foundational knowledge about Chinese culture, society, history, geography, economics, and the background of political systems, spanning both the traditional and modern eras. Participants will engage in hands-on activities and explore how to design learning activities related to our country according to students’ ability, so as to enhance participants' curriculum-related skills and knowledge for teaching related elements in the Primary Humanities curriculum.
In addition to updating the new curriculum focus, this programme also emphasises pedagogical enrichment in teaching Primary Humanities. The programme facilitate participants in enhancing the learning experience of primary students on topics related to our country through a variety of pedagogies. These include:
- interactive storytelling techniques, group discussion, role play and drama education;
- museum visits, and cultural field trips both locally and in the Greater Bay Area;
- learning and reading across the curriculum with elements related to Primary Humanities;
- gamified learning and other e-learning strategies in teaching topics related to our country.
The goal is for participants to be able to design learning and teaching materials with topics related to our country upon completing the course.
The programme will offer two courses for participants to choose from, each with a different learning theme to deepen their understanding of our country:
(1) local cultural excursions with the purpose of learning about our country and
(2) planning GBA cultural trips for primary schools.
Participants will be required to complete one of the following courses, each carrying 3 credit points (cps):

Theme 1 course: Understanding Chinese Culture and Local Experiential Learning in Primary Humanities
