Programme Aims
The programme aims to enhance teachers’ knowledge and skills in the teaching of English in primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. It places particular emphasis on recent pedagogical practices and practical ideas and strategies for English language teaching in the digital era that address the needs of contemporary English language classrooms and current curriculum developments in the local school sector. It also seeks to broaden teachers’ understanding of new possibilities for applying these practices to facilitate learning and teaching in the English classroom.
Upon completion of the programme, participants should be able to:
- Review and reflect on the current practices of teaching English in schools in Hong Kong;
- Develop an understanding of recent pedagogical strategies for English language teaching and learning, particularly those emerging from the digital era;
- Explore practical ideas, resources, and classroom activities, including technology-enhanced approaches, to support students’ English language development; and
- Apply appropriate teaching strategies to enhance learning, teaching, assessment, student engagement, and language development in English classrooms.
Programme Structure
The programme comprises the following course:
English Language Teaching in the Digital Era - Practical Ideas and Strategies (3 credit points)
This course aims to support practising English Language teachers’ continual professional development by introducing recent pedagogical practices emerging from the digital era. It enables participants to explore new possibilities for applying these practices to facilitate learning and teaching in the contemporary English classroom. The PDP course will be conducted on five consecutive Saturdays, with each day focusing on one of the following topics: informal digital learning of English, technology-enhanced vocabulary learning, assessment and feedback in English writing, digital storytelling and use of multimodal texts in the English classroom.

Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is English.
Entrance Requirements
To be eligible for admission, applicants should be:
- in-service primary or secondary school English Language teachers in Hong Kong; and
- recommended by school principals.
Award
To be awarded a Certificate of Completion, participants must obtain a pass in all assessment tasks required and successfully fulfill the attendance requirements as stipulated by the programme.
